American Vogue may have published a well-penned argument for an 18+ modelling age minimum, but that isn’t stopping high schooler Kaia Gerber. The 16-year-old breakout supermodel walked 18 shows in her debut season last fall, ending her successful run with an honour any model would die for: opening the CHANEL show. It does help that her mom is supermodel Cindy Crawford, whose golden reputation and sculpted bod still lands her big brand contracts in her 50s. Now that Kaia has had her taste of the fashion world, she’s entering into her first big design collab, with the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, no less.

The 68-piece capsule collection will hit Karl Lagerfeld stores on September 15th, consisting of ready-to-wear and accessories, including footwear, sunglasses, and jewelry.

“We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in L.A. and at our studio in Paris. It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion, and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women,” Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld, said in a statement.

The LA-meets-Paris styled collection is a comprehensive marriage of the two aesthetics: wetsuit-inspired bodysuits, biker jackets, double-breasted tuxedos, over-the-knee socks, and monochrome pieces. The entire selection will be launched exclusively via Karl.com and on a currently secret e-commerce platform for two weeks starting August 30th, before becoming available on other international e-tailers, followed by a series of events in LA, NY, and of course, Paris.

With the recent release of new images for the collection, there’s no doubt that Lagerfeld’s team are hoping the Kaia collab will have a similar effect as the Tommy x Gigi phenomenon that has generated a 900 percent increase in traffic to the Tommy Hilfiger website.

Whether or not the Vogue article will shift regulations for models, Kaia has cemented her place on top, dominating campaigns and runways and overshadowing the reality TV offspring, Kendall Jenner, and the Hadids. Jenner even joked with Love Magazine “Listen, we’re all trying to get all our work in now before she hits the scene. When that happens, we’ll all go broke!”

Well, Kenny, it’s happened. Now only time will tell if the Kaia Kraze can withstand the unpredictable climate of an ever-evolving industry.
