We’re excited to share an interview with renowned fashion photographer Chris Nicholls who has been part of the DTK team for years and always produces impeccable work. Delving deeper into who he is as a person, readers get an insight into his true passion for photography.

Originally hailing from the UK, Chris Nicholls started dappling in photography as a teen and like any natural, his talent blossomed. One could argue that he inherited the touch from his grandfather who, in fact, opened a portrait studio in the ’40s, which is still standing today.


Different from his grandfather, Nicholls had a keen interest in fashion photography. “I throw myself 100% into fashion. That’s what I do. I live it and breathe it,” he explains about his passion for the industry. With a variety of accolades on his top shelf, from CAFA Award for Image Maker of the Year

(2014) to Photographer of the Year for Proctor and Gamble Fashion & Beauty Awards (three consecutive winnings) and more, his notable ability to capture light and his receptiveness to colour which has set his aesthetic and work apart. 

Over the years, as the industry’s categories have been forced to adapt to the influx of technology, Chris’ approach to photography has also changed. “I think I’ve evolved with the times,” he says of his craft. He additionally notes that the photography industry is “no longer limited to the people who can afford the equipment and the education. That has been a great boost to the creation of creativity.” On the “flip side, it’s created a lot more competition; there are so many photographers out there,” he notes of the increasingly competitive photographic space. Working on an average of 130 shooting days per year, Nicholls surrounds himself with a solid team of “my studio manager, digital technician, and my wife.”

Throughout his career, Chris has established himself as a mainstay in the fashion, beauty, and celebrity photography worlds, having shot top models, such as Jessica Stam, Elsa Hosk, and Alessandra Ambrosio, and celebrities, like Miley Cyrus, Claudia Schiffer, and more. His work has been splashed across international publications and advertising campaigns for notable brands in Canada and the U.S.
