Years later, and after studying at Toronto’s Ryerson University, he is still designing, and has already garnered numerous awards. Lucian won The Fur Council of Canada Award (2002), Le Chateau’s Menswear Competition (2002), and was among the finalists for the Alfred Sung Award (2003), to name just a few. To say that this Romanian-born designer is brimming with talent seems an understatement in light of the skill demonstrated in his all-black collection for autumn and winter 2012/2013, which features techniques that approach the standards of haute couture. His experimentation with lace, both precious and precise, and his work with feathers – sublime extensions that enrich the train of a long dress – surely place him as one of the rising stars of Canadian fashion.
