Spring is just around the corner, and vibrant and bold hues are slowly rising on the cosmetic horizon. Yet, the lingering last snowflakes and cold weather make it difficult to rock summer-inspired trends, such as pink eyeshadow, which is set to be all the rage the minute we slip into warmer days again. Until then, if you’re looking to upgrade your eyeshadow repertoire whilst still making a vigilant purchase, your best bet remains some Pre-Spring/Winter eye palettes.

Be on the lookout for palettes offering a plethora of textures (highly pigmented mattes, shimmery pearl shades, and creamy mattes) which allows for a wide array of combinations and to navigate with ease between toned down and strong looks, no matter the occasion. From there, keep an eye out for a mix of “safe” hues (your normal go-to) paired with this season’s “it” colours. This is crucial if you’re looking to make a smart investment and to continue using the palette deep into the first few days of summer. SS18’s approach to summer is anything but subtle: think freehanded eyeliner, smudged blue eyeshadow (hello, ‘80s!), shimmery textures, and every possible rendition of pink shades from rosy nudes to intense fuchsia, in every imaginable intensity and finish!

Here are our current top picks. (Click on the product names to buy online!)

Glow Addict Edition: 5 Coleurs Spring Look 2018 Limited Edition DIOR ($73)

Launched in January, these 2 collector’s editions seriously amp up the ante with their tulle details, reminiscent of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first collection & signature thread detail. The newly appointed Dior artistic director once claimed that Dior needs to be about female empowerment – and the latest eyeshadow palettes certainly pay an ode to femininity in their own way. Flirt (#887) and Thrill (#667) both offer a synergy of vibrant and indulgent rosy shades, punctuated with easy to wear nudes and warm golden tones. Perfect for playing up a striking look at night, every shade is pertinent, which makes it particularly appealing.

Les 4 Ombres Première Éclosion CHANEL ($68)

An ode to the last snow days, these in-between season moments are where one looks forward to seeing the first few daffodils bloom, pushing through soil and snow. When Spring fever is in the air,  the days are still nippy, save for a few precious hours sitting on a terrace in the middle of the afternoon. The aptly named “Dernières Neiges de Chanel,” part of the Le Blanc makeup collection in shade #302, made way for the quintessential palette for transitioning into warmer days. The result is four multi-effect quadra eyeshadows, which aim to highlight and intensify, with their fresh, polyvalent, pastel hues. The ritzy black and white notorious compact comes with two medium tones (contour, colour), a deeper shade (intensify), and a lighter hue in order to make the eyes pop. The French house created a harmony of prismatic and airy hues that can be worn all at once (or not) and will transition a look from day to night effortlessly.

Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette MARC JACOBS BEAUTY ($49)

This palette has six shades – with several fashionable finishes to choose from, such as silk and lamé, satin, or velvet. Trendsetting pops of colour can be layered and offer a long-wear, flawless result. It’s filled with covetable nudes and dashing hot pinks, cobalts, etc. Hyper-pigmented formulas are for those looking to make a mesmerizing first impression! It’s available in six different base colours, so you can choose the one that fits your face and lifestyle best.

Urban Velocity Trio Baked Eyeshadow LISE WATIER ($44)

This is straight up, a brilliant Spring palette, ideal for those who swear by the lovely creamy “baked” texture effect. With its high concentration of pearlescent pigments and seriously trendy hues, this trio can be worn either alone for a more subdued finish, or dabbed on the eyelid with a moistened sponge, to add a touch of drama and sass to any eye look. The pale to rich garnet shades makes for a super trendy trio and a buttery application, sans any fallout or residue. This is a unique and fun compact.
