What do you think of when you think about summer? For many, it’s the time spent under the sun, typically lying on the sandy shores of the nearest beach. The crisp fall air may have us excited to take out our leather jackets and plaid shirts from hibernation, but there is an inkling urge to take us back to the beating sunshine and cool breeze of the beach, even just for a second. This is why CHANEL’s latest show for SS19 was the perfect spring summer spectacle we saw on the runway.

The French fashion house is notorious for its elaborate sets in the Grand Palais, with previous seasons featuring grocery stores, enchanted forests and this past spring’s ocean liner for the 2019 Cruise show. This time around, Karl Lagerfeld took guests down by the bay, transforming the catwalk into sandy shores of a fantastical beach, complete with CHANEL lifeguards, wood pallets and actual waves. As models sauntered barefoot, it felt natural – and almost practical – to see pastels, wide-brimmed hats, and shorter hemlines instead of juxtaposed against the Parisian gray skies that were waiting outside.

The laid-back beauty looks created by Lucia Pica perfectly matched the nonchalant feeling of the show. Using all CHANEL product, Pica painted the models to accentuate their natural beauty and add a pop of colour for the summer.

For the face, she used the TIENT VITALUMIERE AQUA, PALETTE ESSENTIELLE, POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE, and LE CORRECTEUR DE CHANEL.

The eyebrows were brushed and streamlined with the STYLO SOURCILS WATERPROOF and LE GEL SOURCILS.

For the eyes, Lucia used the LES 9 OMBRES – EDITION No2 Quintessence and BEAUME ESSENTIAL Transparent from the SS19 collection L’ART DU DETAIL, in addition to the LE VOLUME REVOLUTION DE CHANEL – No10* Noir mascara from the Eyes Collection 2018.

For the sun-kissed cheeks, Pica used PALETTE ESSENTIAL and BAUME ESSENTIEL Sculpting (also from SS19’s L’ART DU DETAIL).

Lips were painted with the ROUGE ALLURE VELVET No72 in Infrarose (new from L’ART DU DETAIL) – a bright hue that gives a radiant glow – and POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE.

Nails had LA BASE, LE VERNIS DE CHANEL No646 Bleached Mauve (another feature in L’ART DU DETAIL) and topped with the signature LE GEL COAT.

The girls’ skin was prepped with HYDRA BEAUTY MICRO GEL YEUX, HYDRA BEAUTY MICRO SERUM and LA SOLUTION 10 DE CHANEL to give them a lust-worthy long-lasting radiance.
