Why should we be inspired by french women’s idea of beauty?

Parisian women are unapologetically themselves, flaws and all, and manage to look perfectly imperfect with style without trying too hard. They mastered the effortless, casually cool look with minimal makeup and slept-in wavy hair.

After analyzing the difference in beauty trends, I came to realize that European women in general had another philosophy than us westerners when it came to beauty. These days, all we seem to hear about is contouring, strobing and sculpting.

There’s nothing wrong with enhancing our natural features but it is refreshing to see women knowing themselves and embracing their flaws. When thinking of classic and timeless european beauties, automatically, you may think about Marion Cotillard, Garance Doré, Caroline de Maigret, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot or Vanessa Paradis.

The key is to feel good about yourself, feel free to listen to yourself, learn what suits you best, and when it comes to beauty… identify your makeup staples. For me, classics are a good skincare routine (the more you take care of your skin, the less you will have to use makeup), a chic red lip, with a crisp white shirt and a bold leather jacket. Pieces like these can make an outfit in an instant and are always in style.

To not over do it, keep things minimal, like Coco Chanel said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off”. It’s time to stop trying to be someone else and  discover your personal style, that is the real reason why we are so fascinated with these women.

Sometimes that “je ne sais quoi” is simply the audacity too unapologetically be ourselves!
