small girls, big pants. it can be done.

In case you haven’t heard, skinny jeans are dead (or at least taking a well-deserved extended nap). This season is all about mimicking your pyjamas with loose-fitted pants in every style, texture, or form. Whether a pair of culottes, some 70s flares, or distressed boyfriend jeans, comfort is everything and the airier the pant, the better. If you happen to be petite, this may be alarming news and abandoning your skinnies for a while might seem like an unrealistic aspiration. Luckily, it can be done and in a flattering way no less.

Here are a few guidelines on how to style this trend if you’re a little on the shorter side.

Style It With Heels

Though stilettos are not the only shoe option, they happen to be the easiest way to elongate a petite frame. No matter what you’re wearing, a pair of heels will instantly create an illusion of height and lengthen your legs. For a floor-skimming wide-leg pant, go for a pair of 70s wedges to match and if you’re looking to dress up a more casual look, stilettos can glam up your loose denim.

Allow Crop Tops To Become Your Best Friend

A great way to style your boyfriend jeans is with a crop top. A fitted look will balance out your outfit and draw attention to the narrowest part of your torso, creating an illusion of height.

Tip: a monochromatic look is slimming and lengthening.

Embrace the High Waist

If there is one thing in fashion that favours petite ladies, it’s high-waisted pants. A high-waisted style will lengthen your legs and bonus, it accentuates your curves AND has a slimming effect. Can you ask for anything more?

Belt It and Tuck It

By tucking in a blouse and belting your pants, you’ll give yourself a more defined silhouette by outlining your waist without taking away from the comfort of a looser pair of pants. This look works best with denim styles and can open the door to those flared jeans you’ve had your eye on.
