There is something so romantic about Italian summers. Maybe it’s the lingering hype of Call Me by Your Name, or maybe it’s the fantasy of finding a Romeo – or Juliet – while basking in the Mediterranean sun beside crystal clear aquamarine waters, but when someone mentions Italy, our hearts skip a beat. And, in fashion, there is no one who embraces Italian culture like Dolce & Gabbana.

From their ads featuring Italian nonnas to the typical D&G woman dressed like Italian royalty, Dolce & Gabbana have brought the essence of their culture’s beauty to the forefront of fashion. Their fragrances do no less.

The famous Light Blue fragrance, launched in 2001, is the crème de la crème of luxurious scents. Recently winning the Consumer’s Choice Award, adding to the numerous list of accolades it has already achieved, Light Blue for both women and men has solidified its spot as one of the best scents on the market. For women, it is a marriage of Granny Smith apple, Sicilian cedar (an homage to the designers’ home province), and bluebell, with middle notes of bamboo, jasmine and white rose and a base of citron wood, amber, and musk. Pour Homme, the fragrance is characterized by its blend of Sicilian mandarin, grape, Russian pepper, rosemary, Szechuan pepper, rosewood, American musk wood, incense, and oak moss. Both are light-hearted, sparkling, and sophisticated – an embodiment of the D&G brand.

In recent years, due to the overwhelming popularity of Light Blue, the iconic Italian brand has branched out into limited editions of the scent, each connecting to a place in Italy. From the fishing village of Portofino to the volcanic island of Stromboli, Dolce & Gabbana have taken our noses on a cruise through the Mediterranean. This summer, our stop is in Capri, with their launch of Italian Zest.

Dolce & Gabbana have built upon their casual and breezy signature base adding notes of fresh lemon (for her) and bergamot (for him) to truly transport you to a sparkling summer day. Last night, DTK was introduced to the new scent at a stunning gathering at the Thompson Hotel rooftop in Toronto, where bottles of Italian Zest were tested by the city’s top influencers, accompanied by traditional Italian fare.

The positive response from the group was overwhelming – guests seemed to be impressed by the magic of the scorza di limone, or the signature lemon zest that differentiates the women’s scent from its predecessors. The fantasy of Capri came to life with every whiff of the fragrance, both Pour Femme and Pour Homme.

Some women even gravitated more towards the men’s eau de toilette, drawn in by the fresh bergamot that boosts the signature contrast of coolness and sensuality. The lingering cocktail of citrus and musk is what you dream your boyfriend smells like. The best part? Gift him a bottle and your dreams can become a reality.

The lavish twist on the cult fragrances is a much-needed refresh to transform your summer beauty routine. Whether you’re stuck sitting in an office or jetting off to Capri (making the rest of us jealous), you can smell like you live a life of luxury. And to make it even better – and attract millennial shoppers – you can test your skills on the new Italian Zest game made especially for the launch.

DOLCE & GABBANA Italian Zest Pour Femme ($92 for 50ml) and Italian Zest Pour Homme ($80 for 74mL) available at Sephora.
