Tartan is taking over, and this season, Canada’s top retailer is making a play. Blending old school prep with modern British codes, Simons’ curated collection of punk and polished plaid incorporate a combination of colours and assorted checks to bring together fresh autumnal looks.

The classic print has been seen across runways for FW18/19, parading down the catwalks in different hues, cuts, and layers. Simons has made these show-stopping styles accessible to fit in with the modern Montreal lifestyle and beyond. While sharp red shades (an homage to the traditional red tartans of the British Isles and reminiscent of McQueen’s signature print that noted his own Scottish heritage) are the centerpiece of this series, the collection boasts the entire rainbow from all areas of the colour spectrum.

Fall may be a time that many gravitate towards sheets of grey, black, and beige, striving towards a minimalist look that parallels the overcast weather experienced nationwide, but the Tartan Takeover launch inspires us to befriend colours and prints all season long. Whether it’s layering checks, mixing in contrasting pantones, or breaking any matching rules school uniforms may have instilled in us, plaid has reinvigorated itself once again.
