Chanel’s Timeless Haute Couture SS/2020
In part inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s childhood, Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring Summer 2020 offers a timelessly classic collection that draws on iconic Chanel motifs.

The collection draws on motifs that have cemented the Chanel aesthetic: the rigour of black and white habits, geometric interlacing patterns, collars and smocks reminiscent of boarding school uniforms – all elements which informed and inspired Chanel’s childhood and her time spent by the cloister garden of the Abbey of Aubazine. These elements are subtly imbued in the silhouettes of the collection, paired with boots and white tights.
Adorned by jewelled buttons and flowery and celestial patterns, with tweed and wide tulle skirts, the collection also exudes a country charm, yet is modern and contemporary. The graphic motifs are inspired by stained glass windows, having matte pastel and ivory white sequins as detailing. The collections is parts elegant and austere, and parts graceful and light – taffeta, chiffon, crepe and tulle and tiered dresses, kimono sleeves and capes bring a freshness and glamour to the collection.
The collection reflects not only the Abbey the show takes place in beautifully – floral, fresh, light, elegant, and classic – but also Chanel’s heritage as a brand, and the Chanel woman – timeless yet daring.
