As part of my initiative to showcase the diversity of local brands, I invite you to discover Claudette Floyd, who is proposing coordinated masks and dresses.

Rush Couture by Claudette by Claudette Floyd, Founder and Creative Director.
What is the story behind your brand? The brand was founded over 15 years ago with the aim of creating pieces that are effortlessly chic and affordable. The brand has evolved over the years with the Rush Couture label featuring dresses as its signature pieces and the Claudette label featuring pieces that are casual chic.
How would you describe your brand? Resilient, unique and evolving.
What is your creative process? My creative process usually begins with sketches for the season, colours, and what’s going on in the world.
What has inspired your latest collection? My latest collection was inspired by pieces that I want in my closet.
What are your influences? Everyday people.
What is your signature piece? Our asymmetric dresses.
What is your fondest fashion memory? Selling my first dress.
How are you coping with COVID? The situation will lead to the closing of many stores, as the financial support that’s been offered only reaches a few businesses in our industry. Being home bound as so many, I am trying to find alternative ways to sustain the brand; one of the ways is by going behind the camera to take the photos of my latest collection while in quarantine. I have started producing masks for my family and clients, some of which are cut from the materials from my collections. Matching the mask to the dress may be the next trend!
I am also planning a huge 80% off sale on all my archived pieces. I will be posting soon on the website and social media.
On a different note… Which book is on your nightstand at the moment? “The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment” by Eckhart Tolle.
Which song are you listening to over and over? “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone.
Which television series are you binge watching? “The Last Kingdom” (Netflix).
What is your favorite recipe of the moment? OMG, I am cooking up a storm. I would say pan seared cod with grilled vegetables.
Which movie inspires you? “Self Made” (Netflix).
