The Fall 2020 collection marries haute couture with psychedelic patterns and a psychedelic colour palette, drawing on a multitude of influences in order to create a collection that puts arts and various styles at its centre. Featuring everything from stitched berets and silk patterned shirts to trench coats and tailored shorts, pieces are embellished by floral motifs, python prints, and checks and stripes, playing with unexpected harmonies and merging French and American silhouettes and identities. Drawing on the art deco architecture of Miami Beach, the collection is imbued with colours such as hibiscus red, pacific blue, saffron, and pastel shades. Vibrancy informs the collection down to the accessories, pairing the Dior oblique with a unique mixture colour palettes. Dior describes the collection as “joyful and light,” a new form of elegance.
Dior further draws on its relationship and history with art, not only through its collection, but through the decision to host the show in Miami, on the eve of the inauguration of The Art Basel Miami Fair, across the street from The Rubell Museum, an ode to Monsieur Dior’s first vocation as a gallerist. Dior even got streetwear icon Shawn Stussy to redesign the logo of Dior in a graffiti style and create new prints for the collection, dedicating the runway set design to Stussy’s abstract Dior lettering and the sunset-lit Stussy universe.
Even more, the show put the spotlight on the much anticipated limited edition Air Jordan collab, marking the first ever collaboration between the Jordan brand and a Parisian haute-couture house, further drawing on the collection’s mix of styles and smooth clashes of culture.
