DR.MARTENS X YOHJI YAMAMOTO
It’s a big year for the English heritage shoemaker. 2020 marks the 60th Anniversary of their iconic 1460 boot and Dr. Martens has asked a whole host of designers to celebrate with them. Each month of their anniversary year will see the release of a new collaboration with 12 innovative brands who have been asked to reimagine the famed silhouette. Since the beginning of the year the 1460 Remastered Boot has be updated by the likes of Bathing Ape, BEAMS, and Raf Simmons.

For the month of April (their true anniversary month) Dr. Martens will celebrate with the unveiling of their latest collaboration with the legendary Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. The seminal designer holds a special place in the Dr. Martens history as he was their first ever collaborative partner.
Yohji Yamamoto needs little introduction. His ability to defy conventions of construction and gender means he’s written himself into the history books. With a legacy of designing menswear that was worn by women, the classic and unisex silhouette of the 1460 boot was a natural fit. The brand’s ties run deep with the designer. In addition to being the first ever collaborator, he’s been a fan since the first time he laced up his own pair in 1981, and was one of the first designers to take Dr. Marten boots to the runway in the early 00s.
True to the Yohji Yamamoto aesthetic, the 1460 YY Web boot is crafted from a black Smooth Splice leather and disrupted with Yohji Yamamoto’s standout lasered spider web print, a print that’s been seen across Yohji’s designs for decades. Laces are wound into a decorative antique spider — a one-off creation designed bespoke for the boot, and the tongue features Yamamoto’s signature embossed into the leather, finished with yellow stitch detailing and a gold top eyelet.
