The Nanushka 2021
For its two Womens/Mens compilation collections, starting with the 2021 Resort Collection, Nanushka explores nature’s powerful transformative effects through the motif of ‘Human/Nature.’
—By DTK Team
Drawing inspiration from the relationship between human and nature through the use of colours and textures, the collection marries utilitarian silhouettes with organic shapes, rustic elements, and a warm, natural colour palette. Much like other Nanushka collections, founder Sandra Sandor has embued the collection with her own views on natural life, sustainability, the environment, and the importance of paying our respects to nature. For that reason, the collection makes use of responsible fabric choices, such as 100% recycled mesh jersey, FSC-certified satin, organic cotton, regenerated leather and repurposed faux-fur.
For womenswear, the collection’s motif presents itself through cut-out tops and dresses, ruched skirts and twist-front tailoring. For menswear: relaxed, deconstructed silhouettes and suiting, workwear-inspired outerwear and louche separates. Sea-washed finishes, earthy tones, and active materials like fish-net, open-weaved, and twill represent nature’s craft and its hardware.
In their press release, Nanushka defines the collection’s purpose as such: “This first part of Human/Nature is about the need for reflection turning to action, evidenced most powerfully by the sea, the metaphor of new horizons, of cleansing and transformative energies. The effect is a rich, natural sensuality, a subtlety and softness which feels at one with a yearning for natural escapes in these strange times. It’s about a sense of longing and respect for human and natural environments, already a powerful motif and code of Nanushka.”
