Insider’s Guide: London with
KATHY ACIMOVIC

In this new series, we asked our in-the-know friends to give us  a glimpse inside their favourite cities, adopted hometowns, and current locations. These Insider Guides will take you on a specially guided tour, stopping at our guest’s favourite spots, and hidden gems in food, drink, shopping, art and culture. Our collection of taste makers, artists, designers, and creative professionals will show you around their city, giving a local perspective that might not otherwise make it on the map so to speak.

Kathy Acimovic, Fashion Brand Strategist – London

Montreal’s Kathy Acimovic is a tastemaker and girl about town in the best possible way. Former Brand Development Director for Aldo, her high fashion brand collaborations put the Canadian shoe retailer on the international map, and cemented the now brand strategist as the go-to for high powered launches and unique fashion initiatives. As a friend and consultant to acclaimed British designer Erdem (yes we know he has Canadian roots), Kathy is the perfect person to give us a glimpse inside her favourite London haunts.

On why she loves London:

“London is not my city but it is the city i love the most with some of my favourite people in the world and so when i’m there, i like to pretend it’s home.”

Restaurants, Cafes, & Bars

Brat

Brat in Shoreditch is a restaurant featuring all local produce, and if you eat meat only rarely, it is best to eat it here. It’s easily the best steak in town. Also in Shoreditch Bistrotheque.

Allpress Cafe & Roastary

For the best coffee, head over to Allpress on Dalston Lane where they also serve breakfast. My go-to combo is a granola and oat milk latte.

Dukes Mayfair

For drinks, Dukes makes the best martini (fun fact: they only use lemons from Capri!) but beware – they are strong! Have two max unless you don’t want to remember your evening or your date!

The Glory

It no longer exists but there used to be this amazing old gay bar in Shoreditch called The George and Dragon. I spent many a night there. Now on the occasions when I boldly break my bedtime curfew, my go-tos are Queen Adelaide or The Glory (especially if you’re in the mood to dance), which are also in Shoreditch.

The Donovan Bar and Chiltern Firehouse

I’m also a tourist so I can’t help being awed by a good tourist trap and a good hotel bar/cafe. My go-tos are Chiltern Firehouse, The Wolseley, and The Donavan bar at Brown’s hotel. They have a ridiculously expensive mezcal there that’s to die for and it’s worth every penny.

Cultural Landmarks, Museums, Art Galleries

The National Portrait Gallery and Maureen Paley

The National Portrait Gallery, The Tudor Gallery and The Tate Modern which has some of the best views in London! Plus, Maureen Paley is the best contemporary gallery in London. She discovered Wolfgang Tillmans!

Boutiques and Shopping Areas

Every single one of my favourite designers are based in London. It’s so nice to be able to go to their boutiques. To name but a few, slash all of them:  Erdem, Christopher Kane, Roksanda Illincic and of course, JW Andreson. Plus, I never miss the requisite pop-in to 5 Carlos Place and Dover Street Market.

Wellness Spots

Unfortunately, I rarely make the time for it when I’m there but what I lack in “wellness” activities I make up for with a ton of art & culture and some of the best hangs with the locals.
