New Artistic Director for Sonia Rykiel

Sonia Rykiel’s Fresh Face

In 1968, Sonia Rykiel founded her own label grounding the brand with a collection of fitted knit dresses and designs for pregrant women. The designer was quickly baptized as the queen of knitwear. Her signature; heavy hems and linings on her designed with a mixture of black, stripes and rhinestones. Her daughter Nathalie Rykiel soon took over in 1995 as creative director and handed the torch to April Critchon in September of 2011. A short year later, Geraldo da Conceico took her place in 2012.

Now, the French brand has revealed Julie de Libran will be taking the reins of Rykiel’s women’s wear direction. The house is now ready to accelerate the international development of the brand and Libran is the perfect fit. As former right hand of Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, and former design director for Prada’s women’s ready-to-wear collections, Libran will present her first collection at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 in September.
